1. who we are
play alta is a web application for tracking sports match results and player rankings. it is operated from barcelona, spain. when you use play alta, we collect and process certain personal data about you. this policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.

2. what we collect
we only collect information that is necessary to run the service.
- account & profile data — your name, email address, and profile photo when you sign up. optionally, you can also add your city, height, instagram handle, and playing-hand preference. your email is managed through clerk, our authentication provider.
- match data — the match results, set scores, and opponent information you submit. when an opponent confirms a match, that confirmation is also stored.
- profile photo — if you upload an avatar, the image file is stored via uploadthing, our file hosting provider.
- usage & session data — standard technical data collected automatically, including your ip address, browser type, device type, and the pages you visit within the app. we use this primarily to keep sessions running smoothly and to diagnose problems.
- cookies & local storage — we use cookies and browser local storage to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. we do not use third-party advertising cookies.
3. why we use it
- to show your profile, match history, and position on the leaderboard.
- to let you and your opponents confirm and dispute match results.
- to send you in-app notifications when a match needs confirmation.
- to generate stickers you can copy to your clipboard based on your stats and activity.
- to keep the service secure and prevent fraud or abuse.
- to comply with applicable legal obligations.
our legal basis for processing your data is the performance of a contract (providing you with the service you signed up for). where we process data beyond that — such as for security — our basis is legitimate interest.
4. who can see your data
other users. your display name, profile photo, match results, scores, and overall stats are visible to other registered users on leaderboards and match pages. this is core to what the app does.
service providers. we share data with a small number of third-party providers that help us run the service:
- clerk — handles authentication and account management.
- uploadthing — stores profile photos you upload.
- our database host — stores all app data (match results, profiles, etc.) on servers in the eu.
we do not sell your personal data. we do not share it with advertisers or any party outside of the above.
legal requirements. we may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users.
5. how long we keep it
we keep your data for as long as your account is active. if you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to keep it longer by law. match records may be retained in anonymised form for statistical purposes.
6. security
we use industry-standard technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (https), authenticated api access, and signed webhooks. authentication is fully delegated to clerk, which handles credential security on our behalf. no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. your rights
because we operate under eu / spanish law, you have the following rights under gdpr:
- access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- correction — ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete data.
- deletion — ask us to delete your account and associated personal data.
- restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
- portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- lodge a complaint — you have the right to complain to the aepd (agencia española de protección de datos) if you believe we are not handling your data correctly.

8. children's privacy
play alta is not intended for children under 13. we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. if we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly. please contact us if you believe this has happened.
9. changes to this policy
we may update this policy when the service changes. if we make material changes we will update the "last updated" date at the top. continued use of play alta after an update means you accept the revised policy.
